This is an Ancient Armenian Feast dating back to the
Pre-Christianity and Pagan/Hetanos Times! According to the
present day Christian Custom this Holiday
is celebrated on 14 February, 40 days after the Armenian Christmas
on 6 January.
The main ceremony is an Ancient Iranica Heritage of starting off a
bonfire, symbolizing the coming of Spring or Nowrooz, the youth,
the love, the fertility, the blessing of the newly-weds.
The fire symbolizes the light, the warmth, the joy and also the
protection against evil.
People gather around the fire and first the younger ones and the
newly-weds jump over the fire, getting the warmth of the fire,
which strengthens their love and devotion.
After the fire is extinguished, eating, dancing and party begins!
